Karamjit obtained his M A in Mathematics from Punjab University, India, MSc. in Applied Mathematics and MSc. in Computer Science from University of London, and DPhil in Applied Sciences from University of Sussex. Since 1980s, Karamjit has coordinated a number of European and international R&D networks in postgraduate education and applied research, including the European (ERASMUS, SOCRATES) postgraduate education and doctoral training network in human centred systems. His international involvements include collaboration with Japan on Anthropocentric Systems and Technology (EU 1990-1995), a study on Knowledge networking and Social Cohesion in the Information Society on behalf of the European Commission (1996-1997), collaboration with India under the EU-India Cross-Cultural Economic Cooperation Programme of the EU (1998-2004), and currently collaboration with the Beijing Academy of Soft Technology.

AI&Society provides an international forum for "over the horizon" analysis of the gaps and possibilities of rapidly evolving 'knowledge society', with a humanistic vision of society, culture and technology. Karamjit is now based in the Postgraduate Medical School of the University of Brighton, and is coordinating the development of a human centred research programme on Navigating Health in the Community, a symbiotic knowledge networking and collaboration of professionals, practitioners, parents and carers and citizens from the medical and public health domains, community and voluntary sectors, local authroities, employment and training sectors.

Over the years he has organised and chaired international conferences and workshops to promote and disseminated the work of the human centred system research community. Among these activities include chairmanship of international conferences in Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, USA, Japan, and India. Karamjit is the founding Editor of the international journal AI & Society, the founding Series Editor of the Human Centred Systems Society Book Series, both published by Springer-Verlag, leading to the publication of 400 journal articles and 25 books.
